Vanessa Hudgens On InStyle Makeover: Cover Story
By Haley Murphy

instyle_hudgenscover2

From Ashley Tisdale’s new album,Guilty Pleasures, and movie, “Aliens In The Attic,” to Vanessa Hudgens rocking the newsstand, it feels like “High School Musical” has found its way back into the pop culture orbit this month.

Vanessa already appeared on the cover of Parade magazine’s August edition, but now she’s showing off her girly side by dishing on her many different looks, beauty secrets and obsession with Angelina Jolie inInstyle Magazine’s special makeover issue.

Since her big debut in “HSM,” Vanessa has been in the spotlight for her bohemian style and romance with Zac Efron, but she told Instyle she hasn’t let the attention change her as a person. “I’ve grown more bold about taking risks and not worrying what people think.” The actress/singer has been working since she was 4 but has plans to transition from her high school image to more mature roles. She said, “I’ve grown so much as a person and as an actor over the past few years.”

She admits that her favorite look is the “just-rolled-out of bed look with controlled waves.” But does she actually tame all of that hair her self? “I’m pretty good, but my hair is always better when someone else does it! My arms get really tired, and I don’t have the patience”. Besides Angelina Jolie, Vanessa also lists Jennifer Lopez as a source of style inspiration — mostly because they share the same glowing skin.

What do you think about Vanessa’s style?

Vanessa’s fall wasn’t supposed to be in bandslam!

posted by Rachel on July 28, 2009 with 0 comments

In a recent interview, Vanessa’s co-star Gaelan Connell, talked about Vanessa including her bandslam fall. Here are the quotes

The kissing scene was on day five. I just met Vanessa. I like to think that maybe I have a little inner Zac Efron. I get this thing when I get nervous — my fingers go to sleep. There’s paparazzi in a tree and we’re trying to get the scene done, and my hands keep falling asleep between takes and Vanessa’s looking at me like, “What are you doing?” So it was good — none of us ate peanut butter or tried to screw each other up. I’m pretty sure I wasn’t acting too much at that point. I was being what any awkward teenage boy would be if he had to sit down and kiss Vanessa.

This scene that we did in New York City where Vanessa is walking backwards and she falls into a tree –that really happened! It wasn’t supposed to happen. We were tagging around, and she was walking backward and she’s filming me and I’m filming her and I’m like, “Vanessa, stop!” And the next thing I know she’s on the ground laughing. That’s pretty cool it made it into the film. Improvisation skills right there.

Aly and Vanessa would say we did a lot of shopping, but I skipped out on that to save my public image.

I’m going out of town until early next week, so I won’t be able to update anything new until then. Also, when I get back, I’m planning to do a lot of fixing up and remodeling of the site, including converting the rest of the site to WordPress, updating a lot of the pages, and cleaning up the coding to make this site the best it can be!

Vanessa Hudgens has attracted millions of fans as America’s
High School Sweetheart

Vanessa Hudgens does her own vacuuming. She also washes the dishes and waters the plants—and hates every minute of it. But since the 20-year-old actress and singer moved into her own house a few months ago, she says, “I feel like I need to earn my right to have a home. It’s nice to be spoiled, but I want to be able to know that I can do it.”

It’s an unusual point of view for any 20-year-old, let alone one of the stars of High School Musical, the Disney TV movie that spawned two sequels and has been seen by more than 255 million people worldwide. But then, Hudgens seems to be a singular young actress—self-possessed, friendly but correct, and completely unpretentious. Take her choice of meeting place: We’re sitting at an outdoor table at an L.A. greasy spoon—one where Hollywood movers and shakers wouldn’t be caught dead. “It’s nice,” Hudgens says, shrugging. “Just relaxed.”

What this also means is that it’s a place where nobody is likely to make a fuss over her.

Notoriety was the last thing Hudgens was looking for when she followed her heart into an acting career. But she’s gotten a bit of it anyway: In 2007, a nude photograph of her, apparently taken by an ex-boyfriend, showed up on the Internet. The actress apologized gracefully and said she’d learned a lesson, her family and Disney stood behind her, and the whole thing blew over. What has been less easy to dismiss is the public’s fixation on her romance with her High School Musical co-star, the equally young, equally ultra-cute Zac Efron. In the absence of any actual information—both Hudgens and Efron steadfastly refuse to discuss the relationship—rumors fly online and in the scandal sheets.

“That’s why I’m extremely guarded,” Hudgens tells me. “I really do try to watch everything I say. Because one little tiny slip, and it’s like the world is coming to an end! It is hard. I do always have a wall up. But I feel by doing it, I keep myself safe.”

How does she keep her equanimity?

“I honestly try not to pay attention,” Hudgens says. “I try to live my life, do what I want, and just let everything else follow along. I try not to read the blogs or what people say about me. Because that’s what brings everybody down—no matter what you do, you’re always going to have haters.

“I keep my head down,” she adds. “Usually I’ll run around in hoodies, and I’ve got this massive head of hair, and I throw it all in my face so that nobody can see me. But if I want to do something, I’m going to do it, and if people recognize me, the fans, then great. They’re the reason why High School Musical is what it is, and they’re the reason why I’m here, so I’m thankful.”

Her new movie, Bandslam, due out Aug. 14, is kind of a high school musical with rock instead of show tunes. Hudgens plays a very different character from HSM’s perky Gabriella Montez: This time she’s a moody outsider whose nose is always in a book. The role is a nice stretch for the actress, but nothing that will rattle her tween and teenage fan base.

Leaving home was a similarly modest stretch: Hudgens’ new place is 10 minutes from her parents. “They helped me move,” she says. “They helped me fix my house up. They know I’m growing up, and they’re proud that I can actually have my own home. I mean, of course I know they’re sad. I am so close to my family. I talk to my mom almost every day.”

The Hudgenses have always been close-knit and hardworking. While Vanessa was growing up, her dad, Greg, was a firefighter; her mom, Gina, held a succession of office jobs.

“I got her fired once,” Hudgens says, suppressing a laugh. “I was calling her at work way too much, because I missed her. Back then, I was so shy, I did not want to leave her side. I would call her at work nonstop, to the point where she got fired. It was horrible.”

The shyness stayed with Vanessa for a long time. “When I was young, I would not talk to anybody if I didn’t know them,” she says. “I’d hide behind my mom if she tried to introduce me to anyone.” In middle school, she came out of her shell: “I started to get into fashion, which tends to make you a little more popular,” Hudgens says. But school felt like a distraction. “When I was on the stage, I felt like I was hiding behind a person, and I adored it.”

Not surprisingly, she’s always loved musicals. “My parents had Grease lying around, and I watched that and fell in love with it. It was interesting to see people moving stories along with songs—it was exciting and different. West Side Story was one of my favorites.”

The performing bug first bit her in preschool, when she won the role of Mary in a Christmas musical. At 7, she began in community theater, “where you actually had to pay to be in the show,” she says, smiling. “I did that for two years, then moved on,” Hudgens adds, like the young old pro she is. “I started auditioning for commercials and TV shows.”

And started getting hired. Working steadily from age 15 on, she got the rest of her education from tutors. Ironically, the girl who made High School Musical famous never went to high school herself. She’s never regretted it for a minute.

The movie “was the best thing that could and possibly will ever happen to me,” Hudgens says. “I got to make lifelong friends. I had the most incredible time of my life.”

Now she’s on her own, at 20. How do her parents feel about it? “Of course I think they’re worried to a certain extent,” Hudgens tells me. “But they’re so proud of me.” And how does she feel about it? “It’s weird living by myself,” she admits. “I thought I’d be the person who, every time I hear a little noise, would hide under my bed. But I’ve fallen in love with my home. When I’m in there, I feel safe. I don’t think I’ve gotten scared once—knock on wood—in my house by myself. Then again, I do sleep with the TV on so that I don’t hear all the little clinks and clanks at night!”

Bandslam: It’s the biggest battle of the bands out there — “Texas high school football big” — and the winner gets a record deal! Gaelan Connell plays Will, the new kid in town just looking to fit in. When hot blonde Charlotte (Aly Michalka) asks him to join her band, it first seems as if she’s trying to go up against her egotistical ex, Ben (Scott Porter), who’s also trying to win Bandslam. But the band soon develops a unique sound and a shot at success, and sparks fly between Will and guitarist Sam (Vanessa).

Will they reign supreme in the battle of the bands? Or will disaster strike, forcing Will and Sam to stand up for what they believe in, no matter what the cost? Lisa Kudrow also stars…

And here are a couple other articles about Vanessa:

Vanessa Hudgens ‘Excited To Be Sexy’ In Upcoming Brothel-Set Film

LOS ANGELES, Calif. –

Fans are used to seeing Vanessa Hudgens as squeaky-clean teen Gabriella Montez in Disney’s “High School Musical.”

But soon, moviegoers will get to see a much different side – and possibly much more — of the young actress.

In her upcoming film, “Sucker Punch,” Vanessa won’t be wearing her typical “High School” costumes. In fact, she won’t be wearing very much at all.

“I’m excited I get to be sexy,” she recently told Access Hollywood of the role.

The film follows a wrongly institutionalized young woman (played by “Mamma Mia!” star Amanda Seyfried) whose only escape is her own fantasy world she’s dreamt up – most of which exists inside the walls of a brothel.

Vanessa, who plays one of Amanda’s fellow inmates, also appears in the brothel-set dream world as a character named Blondie.

However, the audition didn’t go quite as planned for the actress the first time around.

“I was so freaked out by the audition scene, because it was far fetched – it’s set in a brothel! I got so freaked out that I postponed several times,” she told Access. “Then I finally got the courage to go in and do it and I felt great afterwards.”

Bringing some extra “Punch” to the project is director Zack Snyder, whose recent credits include “300” and “Watchmen.”

And while she was nervous for the audition, Vanessa was very much looking forward to the chance of working with Zack.

“It’s a dream of mine to do an action film. I finally get to be a strong sexy woman. It’s going to be great,” she continued. “I can’t wait to shoot some guns!”

No release date has been announced yet for “Sucker Punch,” which also stars Emily Browning, Abbie Cornish, Jena Malone and Jamie Chung.

Vanessa Hudgens in No Rush to Get Married

Vanessa Hudgens and Zac Efron are one of Hollywood’s hottest young couples – but getting married and settling down is the last thing on the actress’s list of things to do.

“I think [marriage and starting a family] is great,” says Hudgens, 20, “but I’m so focused on my career right now that it doesn’t really cross my mind.”

What is on Hudgens’s agenda is expanding her resume: The leading lady is taking on a different kind of high school role in this fall’s movie Bandslam, a coming-of-age story about a motley crew of students who come together to form an eclectic band. Hudgens will play Sa5m (the 5 is silent), a quiet, shy girl who is a departure from her effervescent High School Musical character, Gabriella. And Hudgens is enjoying the change of pace.

“I think the best part about being an actor is playing different characters,” says Hudgens. “I’m definitely going to revisit musicals later, once I feel accomplished at a certain point, that I’ve gone somewhere with my acting career. Then I’ll go back, because that’s where I grew up – in musicals.”

Singing and dancing might still be very much a part of her repertoire, but Hudgens’s future roles and projects will, she hopes, show off her versatility. In the upcoming action flick, Sucker Punch, Hudgens plays a tormented girl locked away by an evil stepfather.

“The fact that kids look up to me in my role as Gabriella is flattering,” Hudgens said of her thrice-reprised HSM character. “But at the end of the day, I want to do R-rated films, and I want to do things that are a bit edgier, so maybe some kids can’t see some of them.”

Adds Hudgens: “I just think it’s really important to try different things. I think a lot of people get stuck doing the same routine, and I’m just not content with that. I love trying new things and doing new hobbies and just exploring life.”
